Updates to Libraries' Services

Relevant information related to ODU Libraries operations, resources and services during the ongoing COVID-19 crisis.


 Due dates/Fines/Fees:  Due dates for all checked-out library materials were extended for Spring semester, so you should not have a fine on your account since the campus closure for COVID-19. If you have questions about a fine/fee that was on your account prior to March 1, 2020, please email us at If you wish to dispute a fine/fee, you can submit an appeal form.

  • Faculty/staff and graduate students: Materials have been renewed until January 20, 2021, with the exception of Popular Collection books, DVDs, and journals, which had a due date of August 31, 2020.
  • Undergraduates and non-ODU borrowers: Materials were renewed until August 31, 2020. If you still have materials in your possession, you can check their status on the My Account tab under the Monarch OneSearch box on the library home page. Or contact us at 757-683-4178 or
  • Interlibrary Loan materials: In keeping with the VIVA Resource Sharing COVID-19 Task Force recommendations, the extended due date for Interlibrary Loan materials received in the spring 2020 semester was October 1, 2020. All these materials are now due back and should be returned to the book drops in Perry Library. 

 Book Drop:  If you wish to return library materials you may return them to the book drops inside Perry Library or place them in the external book drop on the east side of Perry Library facing the Gornto and Batten Arts & Letters buildings. Materials checked out from the Art Library and the Music Library/Diehn Composers Room should be returned to the appropriate library, but can also be returned at Perry. All returned materials are held in quarantine for 72 hours before being checked in, so it may be up to a week before materials are removed from your library account. No additional fees will accrue during the quarantine period.

Note: None of the Higher Education Centers have external book drops.

 Equipment Returns: All equipment must be returned to the Perry Library Help Desk! There may be a delay in inspecting the equipment for any damage as staff is still limited on-site.

 Student Holds: If you are unable to register for classes due to a library hold on your account, please send an email with your name and UIN to so we can assist you. These will be answered daily.
