This guide contains relevant information related to ODU Libraries' current operations and ongoing response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

 Student Holds: If you are unable to register for classes due to a library hold on your account, please send an email with your name and UIN to so we can help you. These will be answered daily.


* NOTE: because of the delayed opening of the Fall semester (8/29),
the Perry Library limited opening has been extended through Friday, August 21.

PERRY LIBRARY will open for ODU students, faculty and staff (not public users) on a limited basis from July 6-August 21.

  • Building Hours: Monday - Friday - 8 am - 6 pm; Saturday and Sunday - 10 am - 6 pm
  • Access to Perry Library is by ODU ID card swipe at the main entrance -- all other doors remain locked.
  • Everyone must follow CDC guidelines, practice physical and social distancing, and wear face coverings
  • Chat Hours (as of July 6): Monday - Friday - 8 am - 10 pm; Saturday - Sunday 10 am - 10 pm
  • Perry Library's Help Desk will be single staffed.

  • Use of computers and student printing
  • Access and check out materials from the collection (self-checkout available); materials can be returned to book drops inside or outside Perry Library
  • Study space on all floors
  • Collaboration and group study rooms on a first-come, first-served basis. (Reservations will be available August ?*.)
  • All online services and resources

  • The Hofheimer Art Library, the Music Library/Diehn Composers Room, and Special Collections & University Archives (email: remain physically closed. Assistance for these areas is available virtually through Chat or via email. 
  • The conference rooms and library instruction room on the 1st floor will remain closed. 
  • Equipment loans are not available, except with documentation for course requirements.
  • Money for student printing must be added online at - no cash transactions at the Help Desk.
  • Course reserve materials will only be available electronically through Blackboard; no print reserves will be available at Perry Library.
  • Public computers are not available.
  • (Added 7/15) Faculty/graduate student research carrels will not be assigned for the Fall 2020 semester for health and safety reasons. Assignments currently in place will be honored.
