Although ODU Libraries own or have licensed access to substantial collections of research material, you may occasionally identify a book or journal article that we don't have. If you are currently enrolled as a student or are currently employed as a faculty or staff member, you can use our Interlibrary Loan Service (ILL) to request that we acquire materials for you from another library.
Our ILL Service is fast and efficient, and we have borrowing and lending relationships with libraries worldwide. There is a robust lending network right here in Virginia, the Virtual Library Of Virginia (VIVA), which includes all the not-for-profit institutions of higher education in the Commonwealth and offers extensive research collections that we are able to borrow. If you discover that we don't have the item you need, place your request in the ILL system. Our ILL team identifies a lender, places the request, and notifies you when the material is delivered. Books are delivered to the Perry Library Help Desk for pick up, and articles are delivered into your ILL account for you to download or print. If you are a distance learner who lives outside the Norfolk area, we will ship print books to you if necessary. As long as you are a current student or employee, there is no cost to you for the ILL service.
