This guide is designed to help Learning Commons student workers know what to do when working at the Perry Library Help Desk.

The Learning Commons Equipment Loan Program

Until further notice, we no loan out equipment (with one exception). If they are in need of equipment, they must fill out the Equipment Loan Exception Request Form. The only exception is the Sound Booth headphone adapter(not the actual Sound Booth headphones). The adapter will allow patrons to use their own headphones in the Sound Booth (confirming the Open Room reservation will be required before the adapter is loaned out).

 

Equipment Loan Exception Request Form

All equipment loans are typically loaned out on a first come, first serve basis. If a patron expresses that they need equipment for an academic reason, however, they should be directed to the Equipment Loan Exception Request Form. Below are just some examples of when you should refer a patron to the Equipment Loan Exception Request Form:

  • "I really need a camera for my photography assignment."
  • "My student organization needs 10 iPads to conduct a survey on student learning."
  • "I need my iPad for an additional two weeks so I can finish my thesis."

 

 

Equipment Loan Re-borrowing

Equipment re-borrowing is the ability for a patron to check out a piece of equipment they are returning for an additional period of time. For example, iPads have a seven day loan period.  If a patron wants to check out the iPad they are returning for an additional seven days, that is an example of re-borrowing. While there are some similarities between re-borrowing equipment and renewing a book, there are some major differences.

For books, a patron can renew their items via the "My Account" link on the library's page, in person at the Perry Library help desk, over the phone, or by emailing circ1@odu.edu. The only time a patron cannot renew books is if the item(s) is recalled or at the end of the spring semester.

For equipment, the patron must physically bring the item(s) to the Perry Library help desk, and we must have comparable equipment available at the time. Patrons CANNOT re-borrow equipment via email, over the phone, or online. For more information regarding re-borrowing, refer to the Equipment Loans 101 PowerPoint.
