Predatory Publishing


Predatory conferences work much like predatory journals. They typically:

  • charge high registration fees and are focused on profit over scholarly communication

  • use spam email tactics to promote their events

  • may advertise speakers who have not committed to present at the conference. Some events have been known to find a scholar's photo and bio online and post it to their scam conference site without the scholar's knowledge.

Use these to identify a predatory conference:
