Finding Books at ODU Libraries

Monarch OneSearch is the ODU Libraries' search tool. It provides access to all of the Libraries' physical collections and some of our virtual collections by searching across our catalog and selected databases. It's where you want to go if you are searching for print and electronic books, anything in our physical collections.

Refer to the Monarch OneSearch Help for additional information.

Monarch OneSearch Quick Tips

There are a couple tools within Monarch OneSearch that might make you searching easier.

Virtual Browse

  • If you search for a book and open the item record, you can scroll to the bottom and see a "Virtual Browse" section. This allows you to see other books near the one you selected on the shelf if it is a physical book, or a virtual browse if it is an Ebook.

Map It

  • If the item is physically located within the library, the item record will show a "Map It" icon. If you click on this, it will show you the location of the book within the stacks.

Use the "Subject"

  • If you search for a book, open the item record, and scroll to the "Details" section, you will see "Subjects". Clicking on the subject will bring up additional items in the catalog that have that same subject, for example "Educational tests and measurements" or "Social sciences -- Methodology".
