About the Tutorial

The Argumentative Essay Tutorial was designed to assist students in learning the concepts and skills needed to complete argumentative essay writing assignments. After completing the tutorial, students will be able to:

  • Determine what types of sources are needed for an assignment based on the assignment instructions
  • Identify characteristics of scholarly and general audience sources
  • Find scholarly and general audience sources by using Monarch OneSearch and CQ  Researcher
  • Evaluate sources based on relevancy to information need and credibility

This tutorial is located in a self-enroll course in Canvas. It is available to all ODU-affiliated individuals. To access, you need to self-enroll in the course using the link below.

This tutorial includes audio and closed-captioning.

Assigning for Credit

At the end of the tutorial, students will reach a screen that shows their tutorial score. After selecting "Print Results," they will be prompted to type in their name. They will then receive a page that they can save, screenshot, or printed. If you require students to submit, you can have them print and turn in their paper or submit via Canvas using an Assignment link.
