The best way to search by subject or title for books or ebooks held by ODU Libraries is to start with Monarch OneSearch, which is our online catalog of materials.
Step One: Type in the topic or title
Step Two: Limit your search results by Resource Type to Books (electronic)
Faculty: E-books can be linked or embedded into Canvas. If you are planning to use an e-book for a required course reading please check with your subject librarian to make sure that we have a multi-user license for the e-book. E-book holdings that are part of a collection change. Be sure to check each semester to make sure that the books that you plan to use are still available!
Check with your subject librarian if there's an e-book that you need but you can't find it in Monarch OneSearch.
To identify books on your subject that may not be owned by ODU Libraries, you may want to search a database called WorldCat.
Current (Restricted to VIVA/ODU)
Contains records of any type of material cataloged by OCLC member libraries. Includes manuscripts written as early as the 11th century.
If you want to borrow a book that ODU Libraries do not own, you can use our Interlibrary Loan Service to request that we borrow it from another library for you to use. If you are located in or near Norfolk, a book will be delivered to the Help Desk at Perry Library for you to pick up. If you are a distance learner, we will ship it to you free of charge. The Interlibrary Loan Service is only available to current students, faculty, and staff of Old Dominion University and the service is free of charge.
