When the fire alarms sound in the library building:
- The building is to be evacuated as quickly and safely as possible.
- Patrons will exit through the emergency stairways on the four corners of the building or the main entrance/front door. The front and back stairways are not considered emergency exits and are not recommended.
- Handicapped patrons should be directed to go into the stairwells of the emergency exits; Libraries staff will alert security, police, or fire department responders to their location for assistance with exiting the building.
- Police and/or security will advise staff when it is safe to return to the building.
- When it is safe to do so, Libraries staff will enter the building first, then will advise patrons when they may return to the building
